The central figure, the star katsina, holds the shield of defense and the sacred badger, symbol of fertility. The katsina stands over the symbol of the world in which reside the sacred twins, the yin-yang of Indian cosmology. The spotted and brown serpents represent negative and positive energies. Each is balanced, the negative with a tiponi spirit energy (left) and the positive with serpent earth energy (right).
