David presented this 30 minute, downloadable sermon, Reason vs. Spirituality, to the congregation of the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque, about 1983.
David was a "stream of consciousness" speaker so the limited time format of 30 minutes forced him to organize his thoughts to fit a given topic within the allotted time. This was a rare instance where I saw him writing down the thoughts he planned to present.
Another thing to notice is the way he uses his voice. He'd been a radio announcer at a variety of radio stations through his checkered past, before I came into his life.
During this talk David describes the value of the oral tradition of native people. I'd never heard this explanation in my college study of anthropology so it filled in a blank I'd wondered about but not pursued.
